You gained weight in the first place because you got into the habit of eating the wrong foods, too much food or maybe both. You may have been in the habit of living a sedentary lifestyle with minimal time for exercise. Getting rid of the habits that got you into your current weight situation is a good start, but if you are really committed to losing weight you will have to replace the old habits with new ones that support the changes your are seeking. Your LA Weight Loss counselor can help you determine a plan of attack that will help you win the battle to change your lifestyle.
At first your new habits may feel uncomfortable and even unnatural. Getting out of your comfort zone, no matter how destructive it was to your health and your weight means forcing yourself to stretch physically, mentally and emotionally. Your new plan may cause upsets in the people around you because they have become willing participants in your old ways. You may experience a lot of resistance from within and without so prepare yourself for the extra energy it takes to make the shift. Think of an airplane taking off from a runway. The level of energy required to get the plane off the ground is far greater than the energy required to keep it travelling through the air. You’ll experience the same thing. It will be tough at first but it will get easier as you go along.
Your lifestyle change will include changes in the foods you eat, your meal and snack schedule, the way you shop for food, your meal planning and food budget and the attention you will need to give to portioning your food. You’ll need to set aside time to have sessions with your LA Weight Loss counselor. It may not feel fun and may never be completely enjoyable but the effort you have to put out will be equally matched by your dieting success.
As you continue with the changes you are making in the way you eat and your exercise routine, they will eventually become second nature. When you first learn to drive a car you have to think about everything you are doing, but months later you suddenly realize that your driving habits have become automatic. You’ll get so good at managing you food plan and diet that even difficult times for sticking to your plan, such as holidays, birthdays and vacations will become part of your new routine. Habits can work against and just as easily can help us achieve our goals, depending on the choices we make.
